The Walt Disney Company Collaborates with National Recreation and Park Association to Revitalize Local Parks Across America

Parks are places where families can gather, explore the great outdoors, spend quality time together and create memories that’ll last a lifetime.

To help revitalize parks that serve thousands of people every day, The Walt Disney Company, including Disney Citizenship, ABC and ESPN, is collaborating with the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) this Earth Month to expand the organization’sParks Build Community program, which is aimed at improving parks in communities around the U.S. so that kids and families can live healthier, connect with nature and have access to sports.

Just imagine—what if your local park was able to start a community garden, improve its hiking trail or even refurbish its playground with new equipment? These types of Parks Build Community projects will add more exciting experiences and activities at a park near you, and also help families develop a lifelong interest in conservation and nature.

Throughout April, you can nominate a favorite park, which will be entered for a chance to win $20,000, by visiting Disney.com/BeInspired. There, you can also vote for projects in 15 cities, like creating a bouldering wall in Durham, North Carolina, constructing a solar-powered outdoor classroom in New York City, or adding a nature trail in Houston, Texas. Projects that receive the most votes will also receive $20,000 each to help make improvements or expand programs, and Disney VoluntEARS will lend their time and talent to help each project come to life.

Let’s get active this Earth Month and help our local parks remain a safe place to play, learn and live better.
