Disney VoluntEARS and Families Make a Difference During Family Volunteer Day

This past weekend, hundreds of Disney VoluntEARS around the world participated in this year’s Family Volunteer Day, organized by generationOn, the youth and family division of Points of Light.

For 25 years, the event has offered families a chance to kick off the holiday season in an impactful, meaningful way together. Disney Friends for Change sponsored the national day of service in an effort to inspire kids and their families to make a lasting, positive change by helping people, communities and the planet.

“Family volunteerism offers a meaningful way for kids and families to take action in making a real difference in caring for the world we share,” said Kevin Callahan, vice president, Community and Engagement, Corporate Citizenship at Disney. “Disney is proud to sponsor Family Volunteer Day to inspire a commitment to a lifelong love of service, where we envision a brighter tomorrow and we aspire to help make that dream come true.”

VoluntEARS, along with Disney and ABC stars Francesca Capaldi (Dog with a Blog), Karan Brar (BUNK’D), MeKai Curtis (Kirby Buckets) and Albert Tsai (Dr. Ken), rolled up their sleeves to help the local community, military and environment in Downtown Disney at the Disneyland Resort. Together they made 5,000 healthy snack packs for the Orange County Food Bank, wrote postcards for service men and women and built butterfly garden kits for environmental education programs for Inside the Outdoors.

Anaheim isn’t the only place where Disney VoluntEARS took action. From New York and Florida to Hong Kong, Thailand and Japan, nine other Disney sites joined Family Volunteer Day activities in their regions. Each group took part in several volunteer projects, including beach clean ups, tree planting and so much more.
