In honor of the Fourth of July, Disney Parks in the United States are putting on star-spangled extravaganzas to celebrate the holiday. This week, Disney Interactive announced the global launch of LINE: Disney Tsum Tsum, the top-ranked and free puzzle app from Japan. Published by LINE, the leading free call and messaging app, the game has been extremely successful in Japan, reaching the No. 1 free spot on both iOS and Android. And to coincide with the global launch of the app, Disney Store introduced more than 30 different stackable “Tsum Tsum” toys available on DisneyStore.com, in select store locations in North America, and at Disney Parks. The Friday, June 27 (8:00 p.m.) premiere of the Disney Channel Original Movie Zapped, starring Disney Channel and Disney XD favorites Zendaya and Spencer Boldman, delivered 5.7 million Total Viewers, ranking as the No. 1 cable TV telecast of 2014 to date among Kids 2–11, Kids 6–11 and Tweens 9–14. The movie also delivered nearly 1.3 million Adults 18–49. The highly anticipated premiere of the comedy series Girl Meets World (9:45 p.m.) delivered 5.2 million Total Viewers and ranked as the No. 1 series launch of 2014 among major youth demographics: Kids 2–11, Kids 6–11 and Tweens 9–14. The movie and series also set viewing records after being made available on WATCH Disney Channel and iTunes on Monday, June 23. Girl Meets World is pacing to be the most-viewed series ever in the app. On iTunes, it is the most downloaded Disney Channel series preview to date.

Disney’s Maleficent crossed $600 million at the global box office this week, including more than $200 million domestically and about $400 million internationally. This is the 20th Walt Disney Studios release to surpass this threshold! Released in the US and Canada on May 30, Maleficent opened at No. 1 with $69.4 million and has seen strong week-to-week holds. It is currently the fourth highest grossing film of the year and Angelina Jolie’s highest grossing live action film of all time. The film has been performing extremely well in Latin America, including more than $43 million in Mexico, while in China it has taken in nearly $40 million since opening June 20. Maleficent debuts in its final international market, Japan, on July 5.
