A Behind-the-Scenes Look at ‘SportsCenter’

About one year ago, ESPN celebrated airing 50,000 episodes of SportsCenter, the network’s flagship.

SportsCenter was the first program ESPN aired on September 7, 1979. In celebration of the network’s 34th birthday, ESPN Front Row recently took sports fans inside the making of the comprehensive news and information program.

One recent Saturday, ESPN Communications photographers Joe Faraoni and Rich Arden camped with various SportsCenterr anchors, including Sara Walsh, Linda Cohn, Scott Van Pelt and Steve Levy.

They followed them through production meetings, control rooms, makeup studios and the live set to document—in still photos—how the ever-changing, constantly updated shows are made.

Joe and Rich trimmed their 700-photo collection to 41 shots that are showcased in a photo slideshow narrated by Sara.
